Etretat Seashore and White Cliffs
Étretat is best known for its cliffs, including three natural arches and the pointed “needle”. These cliffs and the associated resort beach attracted artists including Eugène Boudin, Gustave Courbet and Claude Monet. The best way to enjoy the scenery in Étretat area is to follow the clifftop path from the town, walking to the small Church of Notre-Dame you will see some of the best of the impressive views, especially the ‘arche de la falaise d’aval’, the most famous of the rock formations along this part of the coast.
Famous French Impressionist Claude Monet created a striking scene of the Étretat coast in his 1883 painting, Étretat: Sunset. It is marvelous to have a walk along the cliff coast area. Nowadays it attracts a lot of people all over the world to visit there, especially in the summer.
